I’ve been in Trinidad about three weeks now, part of that time actually “living” in my new apartment, and visiting the area. Businesses listed in my copy of the Autumn issue of RealDealsMagazine have provided glass repair, dinner, a headlight repair, a pedicure, and paint to cover a badly marred wall in my apartment.
As the new owner of Spanish Peaks Ads, LLC. a division of RealDealsMagazine, I’ll be meeting many of you, selling ads, and inviting you to participate in our blog posts, newsy updates, and fun, informative sharing of stories in the community of Trinidad, and surrounding area…
After dinner with friends Tuesday evening, we were driving home from the Holiday Inn – taking the more scenic back roads down from the pass – when flashing lights came on behind me. I hadn’t been speeding, though we had been talking, laughing, and having a remarkably good time as friends do – and I’d crossed a line in the middle of the road when there was no traffic.
I fully expected the officer to mention my bobble as I’d looked up to see the most incredible night view of the community.
However, he wasn’t after me for my bobble…
He was providing a service to alert me to a burned out headlight. A friendly stop from a friendly cop, who warned me that I’d probably be pulled over again if I continued to drive with the burned out bulb. I wasn’t far from home…
So I told him I was going to drop my friends at their motel, and drive home. He recommended I have a good evening (and I took that recommendation), and we parted ways still high on the mountain side, with me not having a clue how to get down off the mountain. I ended up stopping a few blocks later to plug the destination into my phone…
Although I could see across the well-lit valley of lights to the mountain that rose up behind my home on the other side, the roads are indirect and I wasn’t willing to randomly drive them, hoping to find the right way.
My friends teased me about being pulled over by such a friendly cop and not getting a ticket. I reminded them that officers rarely give tickets to friendly “old” ladies who haven’t broken the law, and we had a good laugh about my being older…
“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another:
‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
— C.S. Lewis
Birthdays do that to a person. And I’m still celebrating my last birthday, over a month later!
After dropping them off, three blocks from home, lights were flashing, and yet another officer walked up to the side of my truck.
“Headlight out?” I asked when he stood across from me.
He nodded and smiled.
I said, “I just got pulled over a few minutes ago, and I’m now just three blocks from home.”
He nodded, we laughed a moment and he welcomed me to town (I must look like a newcomer). And I drove home.
Suzanne Morgan, a sales rep for Spanish Peaks Ads, LLC, arrived on Thursday to welcome me to this amazing little community with a heartfelt gift of china tea cups, from a local shop. My grammy heart melted as I opened the cups saucers, and tiny luncheon plate that I know I will use often as I totally enjoy a luscious and delicate lunch served with tea!
We chattered about her efforts to lock in sales with her specific market in the community, and a variety of sales techniques she might use. Our lunch at a now favorite local advertiser and diner, Tony’s Diner, included delicious enchiladas – the daily special – and the best service on either side of the Purgatoire River!
